Job Description

Exciting opportunity in an early-stage startup focused on DNA programmed chemical synthesis to work with a highly seasoned team to enable the discovery and evolution of small molecules for pharmaceutical applications.

We seek an exceptional full-time Research Associate or SRA with a strong background in mechanical engineering, bioengineering, materials engineering, or chemical engineering. A working knowledge of computer-aided design software such as SOLIDWORKS or AutoCAD is a plus. Preferred candidates will be willing and able to take on tasks ranging from molecular biology and materials chemistry to custom chromatography. Above all, a passion for prototyping, experimentally testing, and optimizing creative approaches to scientific and engineering problems will be highly valued.

  • Follow established wet lab chemistry and biology protocols
  • Identify and test candidate process and design improvements
  • Data analysis, interpretation, and presentation
  • Design and test custom parts for lab equipment and machinery
  • Work with vendors and machine shops to deliver custom parts
  • Ensure that work is performed in safe and efficient manner
  • Share laboratory responsibilities such as ordering and equipment maintenance
Education and Experience

A B.S. degree plus 2 years industry experience or an M.S. degree in bioengineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering is preferred. Exceptional candidates with less than two years of experience or relevant experience in adjacent fields will be considered.


The ideal candidate should be familiar with basic engineering and design principles. In addition, familiarity with a wide range of wet lab techniques such as basic molecular biology, materials development/characterization, HPLC and/or chromatography is preferred.

Strong oral and written communications skills, excellent data record-keeping and organizational skills are essential. Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS or AutoCAD is a plus. The successful candidate will be able to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways, will be capable of effectively coordinating their efforts with other members of the project team, and will be an effective communicator.
